"The Last Forest"

"Redline, Green Spaces"

"This short film explores inequities in access to green space in Durham, North Carolina. Access to green space has enormous implications for the health and wellbeing of a community, and green space issues in Durham are under covered. By 2050, 68% of the global population will live in cities . As cities become denser, environmental health issues like air pollution and the urban heat island effect will become more prevalent. One way to improve the health of city residents is to have public green spaces available for residents to enjoy. Green space refers to outdoor areas covered with vegetation that are accessible to the public, such as parks, nature trails, green roofs, etc. A growing body of research shows that access to green space reduces stress and boosts both mental and physical health . In fact, studies have shown that access to green spaces help people live longer . However, access to green space is not equal among all populations. A report from The Center for American Progress and the Hispanic Access Foundation shows that BIPOC communities experience “nature deprivation” at three times the rate of white Americans . This translates to negative health effects for these communities."

"Beyond Standing Rock"

"Breathtaking aerial cinematography and insightful interviews take viewers on a journey across three modern stories of tribal sovereignty in America. Inside Energy, in collaboration with Rocky Mountain PBS and Fast Forward Films, presents "Beyond Standing Rock," an hour-long documentary that shines a spotlight on the Dakota Access pipeline protest and its roots in a 170-year-long conflict between tribes and the U.S. government over independence, land ownership, and control of resources."

"Fire & Flood: Queer Resilience in the Era of Climate Change"

"Tells the story of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and the fires in Santa Rosa, California, two-near simultaneous climate-related disasters in the fall of 2017, through the voices of LGBTQ people who lived through them and were part of the community response. The film explores the vulnerability of LGBTQ communities to climate disasters and also lifts up queer and trans strategies for resilience, transition, and survival."

"There Will Be Blood"

This is a bit of a stretch, but if you haven’t already watched this Academy Award winning film starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano, you must give it a look! The film follows a ruthless oil prospector trying to take advantage of a small community for their oil preserves. A local preacher, however, vows to get in the way of any injustice. Watch this film if you are looking for a beautifully scripted and gut-wrenching movie surrounding the harmful practice of oil drilling.

"Erin Brockovich"

Do you enjoy watching real events come to life on the silver screen? If so, watch this biographical legal drama starring Julia Roberts! She plays Erin Brockovich, a fierce legal investigator with not much money to her name. Despite all odds, Ms. Brockovich discovers environmental injustice at its core, as she uncovers mysterious life-altering illnesses from contaminated water in a local community. As she digs deeper, she realizes that energy giant PG&E is the main culprit. You’ll just have to watch the movie to hear the rest of this story.

"Promised Land"

Starring heartthrobs Matt Damon and John Krasinski, this film covers the fight of a grassroots campaign against a corporation’s goal of securing drilling rights in a small town. After an economic downturn and members of the community seeking financial support, the corporate sales partners believe their job will be easy. However, a schoolteacher and the leader of a grassroots campaign say otherwise. Hit play on your screen if you want to watch this David vs. Goliath showdown all about environmental injustice.

"The Burning Season"

If you want to be inspired to become a leader for change, watch this film immediately. The film covers the life of a Brazilian rubber tapper who fights against the government and land developers seeking to cut down parts of the Amazon rainforest. The rich and powerful will do everything they can to get what they want, but one man alongside an army of supporters risk their lives to defend environmental justice. If you like tear-jerkers and need motivation, we highly recommend this movie.
